August 24, 2025 - St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador — Team Manitoba is proud to announce that Soren Weselake has been selected as the official flagbearer for the Closing Ceremony of the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s Newfoundland and Labrador, representing the spirit, strength, and sportsmanship of the entire provincial team.
The flagbearer is chosen from over 180 athletes from the second week of the Games for their outstanding performances, leadership, and embodiment of Team Toba values both on and off the field of play.
“Soren truly exemplifies what it means to be a part of Team Manitoba,” said Drew Todd, Chef de Mission for Team Manitoba. “He’s shown excellence in competition, medaling in both weeks here at the 2025 Canada Summer Games, inspiring his teammates, and representing our province with pride. It’s an honour to recognize him in this way."

"This is pretty neat. It's really nice they thought of me for this. I really liked winning my gold medal, obviously, that was fun, but I also really liked getting to hang out with all the other people from all the teams."
Soren is a dual-phase athlete. He competed in road cycling in the first week of the Games and in mountain bike, his specialty, in the second. He medalled in both weeks - a bronze in the men’s individual time trial, and a gold in men’s cross country.
The time trial was his first-ever road race.
Soren is praised by his coach and his teammates as a role model and outstanding mentor to up and coming athletes. He’s also involved in growing mountain biking in Indigenous communities throughout Manitoba.
Results
Team Manitoba concluded the 2025 Canada Summer Games with a strong finish, earning 34 medals — 12 gold, 10 silver, and 12 bronze — and countless personal bests and breakthrough moments.
“This result would not be possible without the hard work, heart, and commitment of our athletes and their families, coaches, and mission staff,” said Todd. “For that, and to those who cheered us on here at the Games and all the way back home, we extend our deepest gratitude.”
Team Manitoba will attend tonight’s closing ceremony at 4:30 PM CST. The ceremony can be live streamed for free on any device at CanadaGames.ca/watch or CBC Gem, cbcsports.ca and the CBC Sports app for iOS and Android devices.
